Game Analysis: Moose Lake 1, Blizzard 2
We jumped out to an early lead when Shannon Steiner knocked in a rebound assisted from Kelsey Lien and Alex Lonetti that slipped past the Moose Lake goalie. We took the 1-0 lead to the locker room. We'be been in this position a lot this year, but have not been able to hang onto the lead. We had a lot of great scoring chances, out-shooting Moose Lake in all three periods. Moose Lake managed to get a fluky goal to bring them within one by the end of the second. We held them to only three shots in the third, despite a last minute attack when they pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. It was a nice win for us. Hopefully, we can build on this when Menomonie comes to town for the last game of the season on Feb. 7th. We tried some new things tonight and the girls responded well. We've had a lot of close games this year. It was nice to come out on top for once.

Game Analysis: Menomonie 2, Blizzard 3 Our power play was really strong in the first period. We have been working hard on our power play the last couple of weeks, and tonight it paid off. But the key to our success in this game was our penalty kill. We successfully killed off 8 Blizzard penalties. We had an unusually high number of penalties tonght. Luckily this didn't hurt us. The Blizzard scored first on a first-period power play goal by Alex Lonetti. Alex took a nice pass from Nicole Steiner and Allie Briggs. This was a sweet power play goal that was picture perfect. The first period ended with a 1-0 lead. The second period started with a scoring flurry. Menomonie came out and scored two quick goals giving them a 2-1 lead. We were a little shell shocked, but the Blizzard girls came right back with 2 goals of their own. Shannon Steiner tied the game when she took a pass from Kelsey Lien and sister Nicole and slid the puck past the Menomonie goalie. Then, 16 seconds later, Shannon slammed in the game winning goal, again assisted by Kelsey Lien and Allie Briggs. It was nice to regain the lead right away. Both teams had good scoring opportunities in the third period, but the game ended with the Blizzard keeping the lead and the win. I was happy with the way the girls played tonight--a good team effort. Tiffany Meyer turned in a great game for us again. She made key saves when she had to to help the Blizzard with the win. It was good to end the regular season and go into the play-offs with some momentum. The girls are peaking at the right time and I think we have a great chance to win our first play-off game against Rhinelander on February 14th. The first round of the WIAA Sectional Play-offs will be held at the Lodge Center Arena at 7:00 p.m. Shannon Steiner received a game puck for her two goals. Kelsey Lien, Nicole Steiner and Allie Briggs also got game pucks for each getting 2 assists.
